Insulation Can Help Lower Cooling Costs

Most of us only think about adding insulation in the wintertime.  However, it is just as important to make sure you have adequate insulation in the summertime to reduce your cooling costs.

No matter what type of insulation you currently have in your attic, you can easily determine the need for additional insulation by looking across the span of your attic.  If you insulation is just level with or below your joists, you should add more insulation.

Insulation levels are specified by R-Value.  R-Value is a measure of insulation’s ability to resist heat flow.  The higher the R-Value, the better the thermal performance of the insulation.  Fiberlite’s Cellulose Insulation has an R-Value of 3.75 per inch. By adding 6 inches of cellulose insulation or R-22, can significantly reduce your utility bills.

For example:  If you have a 2,000 SF home, adding 6 inches of Cellulose Insulation could save you approximately $200 per year on your utility costs.  And the savings over 10 years could be as much as $4,000.  In most instances, the payback on adding Cellulose Insulation can be realized in just a few months.  To see how much you can save by adding Cellulose Insulation in your attic click here to access our savings calculator.
